International Food Day, “Cherish the Food” Arouses the Public Concern and Attention

October 16 is a World Food Day. His Holiness Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang and His Eminence Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche in response to the World Food Day, on October 14, 2017 called on the public to participate in “cherish the food” cycling activity. There were around 3000 people gathered and participated in the last stop at the General Assembly of Miaoli County Government Square (苗栗縣政府前廣場), promoting the concept of cherishing the food.

The event was held on October 14, 2017, starting at 08.00 from the main entrance of Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall. The professional bikers’ coach and Eelin Entertainment (伊林模特兒) participants joined the event with some warm-up exercises. After the Holiness’s speech, people who are involved in this riding activity practiced it with the riding experience, as the purpose to call on more people to caring more about this land and support the sustainable development of the agriculture. After arriving in Miaoli Government Square, the public were able to participate in the promotion of Miaoli local bazaar booths. On the stage of the activity, there were “environmental protection concept” and “organic agriculture promotion” seminar to make the people to be more concerned about the agriculture and having more food attention.

His Holiness Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang has been promoting Tibetian Buddhists in Taiwan for 20 years. His Eminence Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche now will build a bridge in Miaoli and construct the largest Tibetian Buddhist temple in Taiwan, located in Miaoli, therefore Miao Li and the Buddhist priests have a deep relationship and link. Miaoli itself is an agricultural county. The activity with held on that day has the purpose of loving the land, cherish the grain and the sources, with the cooperation with some members of Miaoli Farmers Association.

His Holiness Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang was appointed by the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) as a Mountain Partnership Goodwill Ambassador in May 2015. His Holiness instructed his disciple, His Eminence Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche to organize “cherish the food” activity for the healthy and environmentally friendly life’s concept. They promote the sustainable development for Taiwan, with the environmental protection and green mission. This event also received supports from many co-organizers, including Miaoli County Government, National Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall, Glorious Jewel Group (寶吉祥有限公司), National Police Academy, Cycling Life Style Foundation (財團法人自行車新文化基金會) and many more. It is believed through the activity, the land and the food sources will be able to get more attention and love, and the concept of environmental protection will be continuously spread widely.
