Activity packed five-day Hot Spring Season of Taipei kicks off Oct. 19

TAIPEI (Taiwan News)--The 2017 Hot Spring Season of Taipei will take place from Oct. 19 to Oct. 23 on Qixing Street beside the Xinbeitou MRT Station, and everybody is invited to enjoy the five-day festivities that are packed with stage performances, cultural activities, open air movies and many more, Taipei City Department of Information and Tourism said in a press release issued on Wednesday.    

In its 16th year, this year’s festival will set up a family hot spring splash district, a painting district, a food court, and a stage, the department said.

The festival features a great variety of activities and performances over the five days, including bathing garment experiences, various exhibitions, hot spring splash parades, the Nakasi musician competition and bathing garment design completion, the Ming Hwa Yuan Opera Troupe, open-air movies, 3D movies to show the beauty of Taiwan, hula dances, Japanese Enka singers, and a band from Kyoto of Japan, according to the department.  

The hot spring splash parades will take place on Oct. 21 and Oct. 22. The parade features mascots from various hot spring areas in Japan and the Asia-Pacific region splashing hot spring to pray for blessings during the procession, the department said.

There will also be two palanquins in the procession carried by specially attired children who shout out slogans in unison, the department said, reminding the public not to miss this year’s Taipei Hot Spring Season.
