Brazil women's team brings old coach back

SAO PAULO (AP) — The Brazilian Football Confederation has rehired the women's national coach it fired 10 months ago.

Oswaldo Alvarez will replace the first woman to coach the women's team, Emily Lima.

Alvarez led Brazil to a gold medal at the 2015 Pan American Games but failed to medal at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics. Brazil lost to Sweden in the semifinals on penalties.

The 61-year-old Alvarez has a long career with middle-of-the-table Brazilian clubs.

Lima, the coach since November, was fired last week because the team hadn't won its last six matches. She protested the decision.

Brazil has been led for a decade by five-time world player of the year Marta Vieira.
