Elder Chan prevails in battle between sisters at US Open

Chan and Hingis defeat Chan and Zhang in strait sets in women's doubles at US Open

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) -- In a rare battle between the Taiwanese sisters, together with her Swiss teammate Martina Hingis, Chan Yung-jan (Latisha Chan, 詹詠然) defeated her younger sister Chan Hao-ching (Angel Chan, 詹皓晴) and her partner Zhang Shuai of China in strait sets at the US Open in New York City today.

In the quarter finals of women's doubles at the US Open, the Duo of Chan and Hingis, had an easy time taking the first set 6-2 from Chan and Zhang, and then made quick work of their opponents in the second set which they also won 6-2, thus securing their spot in the semifinals.

Tomorrow, the pair will face off with Sania Mirza of India and Peng Shuai of China in the semifinals. Mirza and Peng today defeated Timea Babos of Hungary and Andrea Hlavackova of the Czech Republic, 7-6 (5), 6-4.
