TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – A Taiwanese school girl committed suicide by jumping off the roof of a building, possibly due to academic pressure.

At 7.39 a.m. today, police found the body of the girl below a 14-floor building in Yonghe district, New Taipei City. From her schoolbag police identified her as a 15-year-old student surnamed Wu (吳) and found a note which said: “That’s me, don’t look for me”.

According to the police report, the deceased was a student at the Taipei First Girls High School (臺北市市立第一女子高級中學). She was supposed to go to school this morning, but once she left her home, she went directly to the rooftop of a 14-floor building and jumped off.

Wu’s parents were deeply shocked by the news and said: “Our daughter should have been at school. How could this happen?” After identifying their daughter’s body, the father said a possible explanation was she was under too much pressure as a new student in a prestigious Taipei high school and felt afraid of not keeping up with her classmates.

The school's principal Dr. Chang Li-ping (張麗萍) was aghast at the news and said the new school term had just started five days ago and they did not see any sign that anything was wrong with the student. The school arranges counseling for students for any issues they may have.
