TAIPEI (Taiwan News) --- The 2017 Hsinchu City International Kite Festival is being held from Aug 26-27 at Hsinchu Port Kite Field, where countries from Europe, America and Asia are showing off their kite performances, said Hsinchu Mayor Lin Chih-chien (林智堅 ), who invited everyone to join the festival to enjoy seafood and the nice scenery.
The Kite Festival includes different themed kites such as "Finding Nemo,” “SpongeBob" and “Jurassic Park". Luminous large kites will also be part of the festival at night.
To inaugurate this weekend’s festival, Mayor Lin along with other Kite masters flew a 20 meters shark kite during a press conference on Thursday.
During the festival, people can also take part in an environmentally friendly event. Members of the public can bring five used disks or used batteries to exchange for a festival themed kite. Also, there’s a "Check-in for Kite” event, and people can buy an Ant Kite for NT$100 ($3.31USD) only, said the Department of Industrial Development.
Free shuttles buses will be available starting at 2 p.m. from Hsinchu Transfer Station to Nanliao, where the kite festival is being held from 3p.m - 6 p.m.
