TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwanese roller sports athlete Chen Yan-cheng (陳彥成) took the first place in the roller sports men's 10,000 m points-elimination final at the Taipei Unviersiade on Monday, winning Taiwan's first gold medal at the sports event.
Chen won the competition with 20 points, followed by Taiwanese athlete Ko Fu-shiuan (柯福軒) with 13 points, winning a silver medal for Taiwan.
As for the female sports event, Yang Ho-chen (楊合貞) and Li Meng-chu (李孟竹) snatched the first and second place in the women's 10,000 m points-elimination final later on Monday, which is the second time Taiwan has won both gold and silver medals at the same sports event.
Roller sports is first included as one of the sport events in the Universiade this year. The results sent Taiwan's medal counts to two golds, three silvers and two bronzes, and ranks fourth in number of gold medals won as of Monday afternoon.
