TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Instant messaging software LINE released its new live broadcasting feature to users worldwide on Thursday.
LINE users who have updated their app to the latest version on Android systems or Apple's IOS system are allowed to make live stream videos in the group talk by clicking the cell phone icon in the top-right corner on the screen. The new feature supports groups of up to 200 people.
The live stream video will not leave the group after it ends, and will not occupy the storage space of the individual mobile phone. The new technology is believed to provide a more convenient way for users who need one-to-many video streaming instantly and long-lastingly.
As the most widely used messaging app in Taiwan, LINE also introduced two other features. The smart calendar now allows users to create events on the new calendar to not only remind themselves but also invite friends to activities. This new function also allows organizers to estimate the attendance numbers efficiently.
Another "birthday posting" feature enables users to celebrate friends' birthdays on the software by posting a customized E-card on their news feed. Users can also key in their birth date on the app to remind friends of their birthday.

Taiwan has become LINE's third-largest market in the world since 2014, with over 17 million registered users, behind only Japan (50 million) and Thailand (20 million), CNA reported. According to research from the Nielsen Corporation, 91 percent of Taiwanese between 12 and 65 years of age used LINE in the first half-year of 2016.
