TAIPEI (Taiwan News)--As Taipei 2017 Summer Universiade will open on Saturday (Aug. 19) evening, the main press center (MPC), which can house more than 1,000 journalists, opened on Tuesday at historical warehouse #2 and #3 of the Songshan Cultural & Creative Park. Media can also pick up their accreditations from August 16.
The MPC has a seating capacity of 400 for the working media, which fulfills the requirement by FISU, according to Taipei Universiade Organizing Committee.
Warehouses #2 and #3 cover a total area of 778 sq.ft. All five wood and brick warehouses on the park were built in the 1940s, and the tobacco transport belt is still preserved and visible at Warehouse #2, the committee said in a press release.
The historical warehouse has been transformed to offer spaces for News Room, Press and Photographer Working Space, FISU Young Reporter Offices, FISU & OC Offices, the committee said.
With the support from the sponsors, the MPC also offers massage chairs for media, according to the committee. In addition to rate card services, the MPC will also provide highly acclaimed snacks from all over Taiwan such as beef tongue cake from Yilan, sun cake from Taichung and longan cake from Changhua, the committee added.
With more than 40 42-inch TV sets in the MPC, media will have the access to all broadcastings of the tournaments, according to the committee. High-speed internet, INFO computers and Xerox machines are all equipped in the MPC for the convenience of media members, the committee said, adding that volunteers and staff will be providing needed services to the media at the venue and the information desk.
