A man jumped off train platform at Taipei Main Station Sunday morning.

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A man jumped off a railway platform at Taipei Main Station Sunday morning and was hit by an incoming train, said Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA, 台鐵) on its Facebook page.

“The man suffered from cardiac arrest after being rescued by firemen and was immediately sent to the National Taiwan University Hospital,” said Taipei City Fire Department (TCFD).

“The man is aged about 50,” said one fireman.

The motive for the man's action is still under investigation.

TCFD said they received an initial report at 11:19 a.m. that a man fell off Taipei Main Station’s Platform 3.  TRA later said the man "jumped off" the platform on its Facebook post.

The train was Jugaung Express 513 bound for Chaozhou, Pingtung County, TRA said. The passengers on the train were transferred to another one departing half an hour later.

TRA added that because of the disruption, four trains were delayed and about 1,360 passengers were affected.
