University aims to educate 50,000 refugees worldwide by 2022

MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) — A New Hampshire university has set an ambitious goal of enrolling 50,000 refugees from around the world in its accredited degree programs by 2022.

The program is inspired by two programs that the Southern New Hampshire University offers refugees in Rwanda. It has received $10 million from anonymous donors to study whether the Rwanda effort can be replicated in several other locations in the Middle East and Africa and then eventually scaled up to reach tens of thousands of the world's poorest people.

If successful, the university would set up 20 sites worldwide, where it would provide its curriculum online for free and team up with local partners to provide support, tutoring and other services for the students.
