Puerto Rico governor pledges $20M for nonprofits amid crisis

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — Puerto Rico's governor has pledged $20 million in government funds to support nonprofits whose budgets have shrunk amid a protracted economic crisis.

Ricardo Rossello says more than 570 organizations in the U.S. territory will benefit.

Also Thursday he signed a law relaxing requirements for nonprofits to request additional government money.

Puerto Rico is entering its 11th year of recession and is seeking to restructure a portion of its more than $70 billion public debt.
