Former US VP Dick Cheney visits Taiwan

Cheney is scheduled to hold a speech during a forum in Taipei to discuss security issues in the Asia-Pacific region

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) --- Former Vice President of the United States Dick Cheney arrived in Taiwan Sunday to attend a regional security forum according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA).

Cheney will serve as guest speaker in Taipei on Aug. 8, during a forum to discuss security issues in the Asia-Pacific region, including maritime cooperation, regional economic integration and Taiwan's New Southbound Policy.

In a press release, MOFA welcomed Cheney to Taiwan remarking that the last time he visited Taiwan was in 1993 while he was secretary of defense. He later became the U.S. Vice President during the administration of George W. Bush from 2001-2009.
