TAIPEI (Taiwan News) -- The airport mass rapid transit (MRT) line between Taipei and Taoyuan International Airport is anticipated to reach the 10 million rider mark by end of this month, said Taoyuan Metro Corp. Chairman Liu Kun-yi (劉坤億) on Wednesday.
As of the end of July, five months into service, the line had seen 8.6 million riders, a rate of growth which should lead to 10 million passengers by the end of August, said Liu.
The line is currently averaging 54,000 passengers per day, with the busiest stops being Taipei Main Station, Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, Airport Terminal 1, Airport Terminal 2 and Taoyuan High Speed Rail Station, statistics show.
Out of the 21 extant stations, those five comprise 68 percent of total passengers using the line, with Taipei Main station topping the list at 26.1 percent or 2.25 million rides since operations began.
Meanwhile, according to Liu, the Hengshan and Xingnan stations have the fewest riders, as there are less in the way of urban development projects near those stations.
