Flash flood warnings issued for northern Taiwan

Flash flooding around Taiwan as first class flood warnings announced

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Central Weather Bureau issued flood warnings for 17 cities in the districts of New Taipei, Taipei, and Taoyuan.

First class flood warning were issued for Xindian District, Yonghe District and Zhonghe District in New Taipei City, for Zhongzheng District, Da'an District, and Wanhua District in Taipei City, and Guishan Township in Taoyuan.

Flash floods, lightning, strong gusts, and overflowing water systems are present in: Keelung City, Taipei City, New Taipei City, Taoyuan City, Hsinchu county, Miaoli county, Yilan county, Hualien county, Taichung county, Yunlin county, Tainan county, Nantou county, Chiayi county, Chiayi City, Kaohsiung City, and Pingtung county. 

The Weather Bureau warns that if strong rains persist, areas under the first class flood warning may experience roadway flooding. 

Taipei's Zhongzheng Bridge (台北市中正橋) received 85 mm of rain in an hour earlier today. 

A Public Warning System was administered this afternoon.
