VIENNA (AP) — Criminal authorities in Austria say two-time Olympic judo champion Peter Seisenbacher has been arrested in Kiev, Ukraine, on sexual assault charges.
Seisenbacher's whereabouts had been unknown since Dec. 19, when he failed to show up for the start of his trial in Vienna for alleged sexual assault of two young girls he coached in the early 2000s.
The regional criminal court in Vienna says it requested the extradition of Saisenbacher shortly after his arrest by Ukrainian police.
The 57-year-old Seisenbacher is alleged to have sexually assaulted an 11-year-old girl between 1999 and 2002, and a 14-year-old girl in 2004.
In 1988 in Seoul, South Korea, Seisenbacher became the first judoka to win gold at two consecutive Olympics after also winning in 1984 in Los Angeles.
