TAIPEI (Taiwan News)— A 4.1 magnitude earthquake hit Taitung County at 8:58 p.m. on Sunday, just as Typhoon Haitang was ripping through the southern part of Taiwan.
The earthquake jolted Green Island, Taitung with an intensity of 3, according to the Central Weather Bureau. The quake's epicenter was located in the sea 24.7 km southwest of the Taitung County government site at a depth of 38.9 km.
An intensity of 1 was registered for Taimali and Donghe townships, the bureau said.
Casualties have not yet been reported in the concerned areas.
The quake took place a little more than four hours after Typhoon Haitang made landfall in neighboring Pingtung County at 4:40 p.m.
