Prep school: Relationship 'crown' violated rules, not law

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — The head of an elite New Hampshire prep school says male students who recorded relationships with girls on a cardboard crown violated school rules but not the law.

The crown was one factor cited by the state attorney general's office last week when it began an investigation into allegations of sexual assault and misconduct at St. Paul's School. The investigation also was prompted by information about a student sexual conquest ritual revealed during a St. Paul graduate's 2015 trial and the school's release of a report in May about teachers sexually assaulting students years ago.

In a letter to parents Monday, Rector Michael Hirschfeld says five boys violated a rule against recording relationships. He says the boys documented relationships by listing their own names and weren't competing.
