TAIPEI (Taiwan News)—A magnitude 5.7 earthquake struck eastern Taiwan at 7:12 AM on Tuesday near the coast of Taitung County, the tremor was felt throughout the island, according to Central Weather Bureau report.

The epicenter of Tuesday’s tremor is located 21.9 kilometers under the surface of the ocean, and 64.1 km northeast of the Taitung County Government.

Taitung County’s Changbin township in eastern Taiwan was most affected from the quake, reporting an intensity of 5.0.

Other cities and counties recorded an intensity of 3.0, such as Hualien County Yuli township, Kaohsiung City’s Taoyuan District, Yunlin County Caoling, Caoshan village in Chiayi County, Chiayi City, and Tainan City Sinhua District.

Regions that reported an intensity of 2.0 in Taiwan included Nantou County, Pintung County, Taichung City, Changhua County and Miaoli County.
