TAIPEI (Taiwan News) –The following is a list of notable events and activities taking place in Taiwan from April 14 to April 20:


The 2017 Santaizi ATP Challenger (華國三太子國際男子網球挑戰賽) held by Chinese Taipei Tennis Association (CTTA) takes place at the NTU Sports Center in Taipei between 17 and 23 April. The game will be the fourth edition of the tournament, which will be part of the 2017 ATP Challenger Tour. Top tennis players Marcos Baghdatis, the runner-up at the 2006 Australian Open, and Vasek Pospisil, the men's doubles winner at the 2014 Wimbledon Championships, will both attend the event.

Cultural events

The 2017 Songkran Festival (2017 新北市潑水節) kicks off on Sunday at Huasin Street (華新街) in New Taipei City's Jhonghe District (中和區). Due to water rationing measures this year, the New Taipei City Government will use the water fog machine to control the usage of water. Visitors can also enjoy plenty of Southeast Asian cuisine, song and dance performances. Admission to the event is free. For more information, visit the official Songkran Festival website.

The VIVA MEXICO Mexican Food Festival from April 15 to April 30 is held at Hotel Royal, introducing Mexican food and lifestyle trends to the public in Taiwan. With 50 hotel and buffet coupons to give out during the Mexican Food Festival every week, customers who participate in the event may get a free coupon from the Royal Hotel.


Taiwanese rock singer Wu Bai (伍佰) and China Blue is holding live concerts "Tonight Wu Bai 8" in Kaohsiung from April 14 to 15. The concerts will take place at the Kaohsiung Live Warehouse. Tickets for the concert are NT$1,500 to as high as NT$1,800.

Taiwanese pop singer Yoga Lin (林宥嘉) will perform at Taipei Arena this weekend. The two days of concerts are part of his World Tour "The Great Yoga 2017". Tickets for the concert range from NT$600 to as high as NT$4,200.


Green Ray Theater (綠光劇團) presents  'Human Condition VI' (人間條件六-未來的主人翁), written by one of the most famous Taiwanese directors, Wu Nien-jen (吳念真), at the Chung Shan Hall in Taichung during this weekend. The Human Condition Series is the best-known drama of the Green Ray Theater, showing great concerns for Taiwanese people trying to survive in an oppressive society. Tickets are NT$500-3,000.

Taiyuan Puppet Theater Company (台原偶戲團) performs the Taiwanese puppet play "Sailor," inviting French soprano Anne Rodier to join their new show at Nadou Theater (納豆劇場) in Taipei on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Tickets for the show are NT$600.
