Volunteers for Taipei Universiade can speak 33 languages

The organizing committee of the upcoming 2017 Summer Universiade in Taipei has enlisted 508 foreign nationals who can speak as many as 33 different languages to serve as volunteers for the international sports event.

The foreign nationals who have signed up for its volunteer recruitment program are mostly students studying in Taiwan under exchange programs, and they will work with 18,000 local volunteers at the Universiade.

The 2017 Summer Universiade, the 29th of its kind, will open at Taipei Municipal Stadium on Aug. 19 and run through Aug. 30.

The biennial sports event for young athletes aged between 17-28 is expected to attract 12,000 athletes, coaches and support staff from over 150 countries around the world, according to the organizing committee.
