Just one last time, Italian tenor Luciano Pavarotti is going on tour. Taiwan is included in his farewell tour itinerary. Taichung, however, has edged out Taipei as the city where Pavarotti will sing his high C\'s on December 14. The Taichung Stadium will be the venue.
Pavarotti is expected to bring his own conductor and a soprano to sing with him. The tenor will vocalize for 40 minutes. The program will be announced three weeks before the concert, according to the Management of New Arts.
Last year, Pavarotti - holding his trademark white handkerchief - formally bowed out of the opera stage. He made his exit at the New York Metropolitan Opera. From then on, he embarked on his farewell concert tour.
For his performance at the Taichung Stadium on December 14, Pavarotti will sing Puccini, Tosti, and Bellini, among other composers. Fans with tickets costing from NT$500 to NT$5,000 can expect him to fill the air with the sweet ring of his voice.
Group tickets have been on sale since October 15. Members of the Management of New Arts Club have also this priority to buy tickets. Sponsors, too, have this earlier option. The general public will have to wait till October 25 to go online and purchase tickets through the ERA network.
Regarding group tickets to the Pavarotti event, tickets costing NT$1,000 and NT$1,500 each are available. Those who buy 100 tickets or more are entitled to 10 percent discount. Call tel. (02)87121986.
Pavarotti was born in Modena, Italy, on October 12, 1935. He succeeded the famous Enrico Caruso in dominating the opera world with his mellifluous singing. He soon emerged the best-known and most popular tenor. The Pavarotti image was born on February 17, 1972, when he sang in the New York Metropolitan Opera\'s production of Donizetti\'s \"La fille du Regiment.\" He glided smoothly through his high C\'s, landing on the high road to fame as one of the world\'s top three tenors.
Pavarotti\'s operatic career spanning four decades has seen him singing in Verdi\'s \"La Traviata,\" \"Otello,\" \"Il Trovatore,\" \"I Lombardi alla Prima Crociata,\" \"Un Ballo in maschera,\" \"Aida,\" \"Nabucco,\" \"La Forza del destino,\" and \"Rigoletto. He has also tackled Puccini\'s \"La Boheme,\" \"Turandot,\" \"Madame Butterfly,\" \"Manon Lescaut,\" and \"Tosca.\" Pavarotti likewise has performed in Mascagni\'s \"I Pagliacci\" and \"Cavalleria Rusticana\" as well as Donizetti\'s \"La Fille du regiment,\" \"L\'Elisir d\'amore,\" and \"Lucia di Lammermoor.\"
Pavarotti\'s past visits saw him perform only in Taipei.
