The body of the captain of a capsized fishing boat has been recovered Sunday afternoon from the wreckage of the boat near offshore of New Taipei’s Shimen, reports said.

According to media reports, the body of Wu Tsung-te was trapped in the starboard side cabin when it was discovered by rescue crews.

The body was transferred to National Taiwan University Hospital in Jinshan immediately after.

Search and rescue efforts were launched on Friday in response to a report of a capsized fishing boat 2.9 nautical miles off Shimen, New Taipei City. While one of the eight crew members, Lin Mou-de, was lifted from the sea at 8:30 p.m. Friday, seven were reported missing.

Lin said the boat was repeatedly hit by massive waves before it capsized.

On Sunday morning, one more Chinese crew member was rescued from the wreckage of the boat after it was found stranded offshore of Shimen.

The remaining missing people include three Chinese and two Vietnam crewmen, reports said.
