Five new YouBike stations, one for each of five local train stations in Hsinchu City, will be added to the city’s YouBike system in mid December, achieving the goal of extending YouBike service to each of the city’s districts, Hsinchu City Government said on Tuesday.
The city government said that since it launched YouBike service in May, 21 YouBike stations have been installed in the city. The five new YouBike stations to be installed at locations near Xinzhuang, Qianjia, North Hsinchu, Sanxingqiao and Xiangshan train stations will complete a citywide network of green transportation consisting of the public bike system and local train stations, providing more convenience for citizens to go to school or work, the city government added.
The new YouBike stations are expected to bring more visitors to the Xiangshan district and boost the city’s tourism market, Hsinchu Mayor Lin Chih-chien said.
In the future, people can rent a YouBike at Xinzhuang Train Station, ride along the Kezihhu Creek and the Toucian River, and return the bike at Qianjia Train Station, enjoying the riverside scenery while riding the bike, the city government said.
The city’s Department of Transportation said the city government has been talking with the Hsinchu Science Park over a plan to extend the city’s YouBike system to the science park and that both sides have reached a common ground in the initial discussion.
