The weighted index, excluding the financial sector, closed at 7,091.03 points, up 183.38.
A total of 3,760 stocks closed up, and 1,577 ended down with 156 unchanged. The top 10 stocks in terms of trading volume were 00632R, 2409, 3481, 2311, 00631L, 2317, 00637L, 2330, 00633L and 2884.
The top 10 stocks in terms of trading value were 2330, 2474, 2317, 3008, 00632R, 2498, 2454, 2311, 0050 and 00633L.
The top 10 stocks in terms of market capitalization were 2330, 2317, 6505, 2412, 1301, 1303, 1326, 2882, 2881 and 3045.
Foreign institutional investors bought a net NT$8.49 billion worth of shares on the TWSE, and local investment trust firms recorded a net buy of NT$1.18 billion. Proprietary securities firms for self-trading purposes served as net buyers of NT$457 million, while proprietary securities firms for hedging purposes bought a net NT$2.24 billion.
According to the TWSE, market capitalization of the local main board stood at NT$23.91 trillion last week, up NT$234.13 billion from a week earlier.
The TWSE said that the weighted index on the main board rose 77.57 points, or 0.96 percent last week. The FTSE TWSE Taiwan 50 Index gained 66.49 points or 1.12 percent, while the Formosa Stock Index shed 106.23 points, or 1.14 percent in the week.
Among the major sectors on the main board, the auto sector scored the highest gains of 3.59 percent, while the cement sector suffered the steepest decline of 3.72 percent.
The index, excluding the financial sector, rose 67.85 points or 0.99 percent, the index, excluding the electronics sector, added 58.05 points or 0.50 percent, and the index, excluding the financial and electronics sectors, gained 40.75 points or 0.40 percent.
The TWSE said that the total turnover on main board hit NT$314.89 billion, and stock turnover reached NT$279.09 billion last week with a turnover ratio at 1.03 percent.
The top three sectors in terms of turnover were the semiconductor sector, the communications/Internet sector, and the sector of other electronics devices. Turnover of the semiconductor sector totaled NT$55.23 billion, accounting for 19.79 percent of the total stock turnover, turnover of the communications/Internet sector hit NT$27.67 billion, making up 9.92 percent, and turnover of the sector of other devices reached NT$27.29 billion, representing 9.78 percent.
The top three sectors in terms of turnover ratio were the biotech/medical care sector (2.97 percent), the optoelectronics sector (2.12 percent), and the communications/Internet sector (1.92 percent).
The TWSE said that since the beginning of this year, there had been 90 trading sessions on the local main board. During the period, turnover totaled NT$7.46 trillion billion with the daily average at NT$82.85 billion, and the turnover ratio hit 23.90 percent with the daily average at 0.27 percent.
