Smart City Summit and Expo to kick off in Taipei

Taipei, March 17 (CNA) The 2016 Smart City Summit & Expo will showcase the use of the Internet of Things (IoT) for supply chains across industries, president of the Taiwan Smart City Solutions Alliance (TSSA), Tseng Chiang-sheng said Tuesday.

An estimated 120 international and domestic companies will participate in the event by setting up 750 booths in the expo in the Taipei World Trade Center Nangang Exhibition Hall from March 22-25, Tseng added.

The Taipei Computer Association (TCA), one of the organizers, said international experts from the United Kingdom, France, the Netherlands, Italy, and Spain will participate in activities in smart city forums and theme halls at the expo.

Tseng said the government should create more opportunities for IoT companies to use intelligent solutions to develop smart cities and also meet citizen's needs. Taipei Deputy Mayor Charles Lin said transforming Taipei into a smart city will be a top priority, and IoT technology will be used to construct six intelligent communities in the city within three years.

Lin also said the city government plans to build smart stations and a "U-car" electric vehicle rental network, similar to the successful YouBike system. The exhibition is organized by the TCA, TSSA, and Taipei City Government. (By Chung Jung-feng and Lauren Hung)
