New cold wave will arrive ahead of Lunar New Year

Taipei, Feb. 3 (CNA) A new cold wave will arrive in Taiwan Saturday, just two days prior to the Lunar New Year's Day which falls on Feb. 8, the Central Weather Bureau forecast Wednesday.

The weather will be cold but dry from Feb.6 - Feb.9, with sunny skies expected during the daytime, it said. Temperatures in the morning will stay low across the country during the period and the mercury is likely to dip to 7 degrees Celsius in northern and central Taiwan and in flatlands in the south.

From Feb. 8, the mercury is expected to rise gradually during the daytime, the bureau said. But it reminds the public of sharp differences in temperatures nationwide that could exceed 10 degrees. (By S.F. Wang and Flor Wang)
