Water supply stable until end-April: WRA

The Water Resources Agency (WRA) estimated Saturday that the country's water supply will remain stable at least until the end of April thanks to abundant rainfall brought by recent weather fronts.

As of 4 p.m. Saturday, water reserves at Shimen Reservoir in Taoyuan had reached 98.18 percent of its capacity, according to the WRA web site. The Second Baoshan Reservoir in Hsinchu County, Yongheshan Reservoir in Miaoli County and Mingde and Liyutan reservoirs in Miaoli County also had water levels exceeding 90 percent of their capacity.

In southern Taiwan, water levels at Zengwen Reservoir in Chiayi County and Nanhua and Wushantou reservoirs in Tainan were at between 75 percent and 80 percent of their capacity.

At this same time last year, Taiwan was facing dwindling water supplies from its worst drought in decades that would later lead to extensive water rationing in several parts of the country.
