Palau and Myanmar airlines launch new routes to Taipei

Three airlines launch new routes to Taipei in Jan

Palau Pacific Airways, Myanmar National Airlines and Myanmar Airways International will respectively launch a new route to Taipei before the end of January, making it much more convenient to travel between Taipei and these two countries, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Thursday.

Palau Pacific Airways’ first flight from its main city of Koror to Taipei will take place on January 30, marking the beginning of the airlines’ scheduled services between the two cities, said Kay Lin, deputy director-general of MOFA's Department of East Asian and Pacific Affairs at a regular press conference, adding that many Palau politicians will take the flight to visit Taiwan on that day.

Last year, about 15,000 Taiwanese people visited Palau for business or tourism, making Taiwan the third largest visitor's country of origin to Palau. After the operation of the new flight route, civil exchanges between the two countries are expected to increase, Lin said.

In addition, Myanmar National Airlines and Myanmar Airways International will respectively launch a new route between Yangon and Taipei before the end of January, Lin said.
