NPP’s Freddy Lim declares election victory

Freddy Lim, who runs against incumbent KMT legislator Lin Yu-fang in Taipei City’s Wanhua and Zhongzheng electoral district, has declared election victory.

Freddy Lim, born February 1, 1976, is a Taiwanese musician and independence activist. He is one of the founding leaders of the New Power Party in Taiwan and the lead vocalist of the Taiwanese heavy-metal band Chthonic. He served as chair of Amnesty International Taiwan from 2010 to 2014.

As of 8:45 p.m., Lin had a vote count of 76,079 against his main rival Freddy Lim of the New Power Party, who had about 82,650 votes, the Central Election Commission's tally showed.

Lin, 64, a national defense and foreign affairs expert who was seeking a sixth legislative term, conceded to Lim at around 8 p.m. in a tight legislative race.

His defeat was part of a landslide loss by the KMT in Saturday's presidential and legislative elections, as the vote count continued.
