EVA Air reaches 10 million-passenger milestone

EVA Airways, Taiwan's second largest airline, set a new milestone on Tuesday when it served its 10 millionth passenger of the year for the first time in its history.

The carrier said its 10 millionth passenger in 2015 was a Taiwanese national surnamed Chang who took flight BR177 from Osaka to Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport.

The lucky passenger received a free EVA Air ticket (good for any destination in the world) and a pack of Hello Kitty gold foil playing cards at a celebration of the milestone held at Taoyuan airport on Tuesday afternoon.

EVA Air's operations have grown steadily since the company became a Star Alliance member in June 2013, the carrier said.

The total number of passengers carried has grown more than 10 percent each of the past two years, going from 8 million in 2013 to 8.9 million in 2014 and to just above 10 million this year, the airline said.

Headquartered in Luzhu, Taoyuan, EVA Air was founded in 1989 as an affiliate of the privately-owned shipping conglomerate, Evergreen Group.

According to Civil Aeronautics Administration statistics, EVA Air operated regular passenger flight services on a total of 62 international and cross-Taiwan Strait routes in 2014.
