Next Computex Taipei to showcase three IoT areas

Internet of Things (IoT) applications, innovation and startups, and business solutions will be the three main fields featured at Computex Taipei 2016, one of the world's leading Information and Communication Technology (ICT) trade shows.

The main theme of the 2016 show, to be held from May 31 to June 4 in Taipei, is "Building Partnerships in Internet Computing Ecosystems," said the Taipei Computer Association (TCA), one of the main organizers of the fair.

It said Computex Taipei has created two new exhibits -- SmarTEX and InnoVEX -- to highlight IoT applications and startups that have already received considerable buzz from businesses at home and abroad.

More than 1,000 Taiwanese businesses have signed up to take part in the exposition, which is considered to be Asia's largest ICT trade show and the world's second largest, it noted.

The organizers of the 36th edition of the global professional ICT trade show have collaborated again this year with the International Forum Design (iF) from Germany to present the Computex d&i awards, which serve as an index of ICT excellence.

The awards, which will enter their 9th year in 2016, will be decided by a jury of the world's top industrial designers, who choose their favorites from hundreds of submissions based on nine criteria that include aesthetics, innovation, practicality, and brand marketing.

The awards will be presented at the Computex Taipei opening ceremony to increase exposure for the winning companies, particularly winning startups, and help them find investors and establish partnerships, the organizers said. (By Chung Jung-feng and Lauren Hung)
