MEXICO CITY (AP) -- The Mexican border city of Ciudad Juarez has reopened highways and roads closed by a rare snowfall over the weekend.
Ciudad Juarez is located across the border from El Paso, Texas. Snow seldom falls there, but the city did receive a healthy dusting in 2011.
The city government announced on Sunday that "due to the intense snowfall, the highways, bridges and overpasses in our city are closed." Hours later, the city announced most had been reopened,
The city opened four shelters for people suffering from low temperatures.
The government of the border state of Sonora, to the west, also announced snowfalls in the border city of Agua Prieta, across from Douglas, Arizona.
Snow was also reported in the mountains of the two border states.
