SANTA CATERINA VALVURVA, Italy (AP) -- Austrian veteran Hannes Reichelt led the opening training session Sunday for a World Cup downhill.
The winner of 11 career World Cup races and gold in super-G at last season's world championships, Reichelt clocked 1 minute, 48.20 seconds down the Deborah Compagnoni course.
Christof Innerhofer was second, a slim 0.07 seconds behind, while his Italian teammate Peter Fill was third, 1.26 seconds back.
Fresh off his first career podium in Val Gardena last week, Aleksander Aamodt Kilde of Norway stood fourth and Adrien Theaux of France was fifth.
Aksel Lund Svindal, the Norwegian who has swept the opening three downhills of the season, was only 31st.
Reichelt finished sixth in this race last year.
Another training session is scheduled for Monday, followed by the race Tuesday.
