RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) -- Brazilian officials say gunmen opened fire in a Rio de Janeiro shantytown killing two.
Police say one of those killed in Wednesday's shooting in the City of God shantytown was 11-year-old Marcos Vinicius dos Santos. He was helping his father sell fruit at an open-air market.
A 17-year-old boy was also killed and two men were wounded.
Police say the motive for the shooting is unclear. They are investigating if the gunmen were drug traffickers or groups that operate extortion schemes, kidnappings and executions in Rio's slums.
