12 Taiwanese injured in traffic accident in Japan

Twelve Taiwanese were injured in an accident involving two tour buses in the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido Monday, officials said.

The accident occurred in Yamazaki, Yakumo town, at around 11:35 a.m., when two buses carrying a total of about 60 foreign tourists collided, Hokkaido police said.

A total of 14 people were injured in the accident, police said. According to Taiwan's South East Travel Service Co., which organized the Taiwanese tour, the Taiwan nationals injured were 11 tourists and one tour manager.

The injured travelers suffered only minor injuries and were reported to be in stable condition after receiving medical attention, the travel agency said.

It said there were 31 people in the Taiwan tour group, and those who were not injured were arranged to continue their tour on other buses. (By Chen Wei-ting, Yang Ming-chu and Y.F. Low)
