NPM to launch high-speed rail packages to promote museum tours

The National Palace Museum (NPM) will launch travel packages in the near future to encourage more visits to local museums, NPM Director Fung Ming-chu said Thursday.

The NPM will cooperate with the Taiwan High Speed Rail Corp. (THSR) to introduce a package that will allow the public to visit the NPM's main branch in Taipei and its southern branch in Chiayi County at a discounted price, Fung told reporters after a Cabinet meeting.

The details of the package will be announced later.

The museum will also introduce two and three-day packages that include visits to its southern branch and popular tourist spots such as Alishan and Sun Moon Lake, Fung said.

Furthermore, the museum will launch a tour of local museums, including the National Museum of History, Chimei Museum, and museums in Kaohsiung, Tainan and Chiayi, to boost tourism in central and southern Taiwan, she said.

The NPM's southern branch in Chiayi County will open on a trial basis to the public on Dec. 28, featuring a variety of exhibitions on Asian art and culture. (By Tai Ya-chen and Christie Chen)
