Northern Taiwan expected to experience cooler Christmas Day: CWB

Northern Taiwan is expected to see the current mild weather come to an end Friday, with temperatures dropping to a low of 16 degrees Celsius, according to the Central Weather Bureau (CWB).

Temperatures in most parts of Taiwan are forecast to touch a high of 25-29 degrees Celsius Thursday, but people in the north will feel cooler weather overnight because of an approaching cold front bringing cooler air, the bureau said.

Keelung, Taipei, New Taipei, Taoyuan and eastern Taiwan are expected to see cloudy weather with occasional rain and temperatures of 16-18 degrees Celsius on Friday, according to the bureau.

Cloudy weather is forecast for the rest of Taiwan that day, with temperatures in southern Taiwan's Kaohsiung and Pingtung set to touch a high of 25-26 degrees Celsius.

Forecasters said temperatures will remain at a similar level until Dec. 30. No cold air mass is expected on New Year's Eve. (By Chen Wei-ting and Kay Liu)
