Weather to turn cooler on Christmas Day: CWB

Taipei, Dec. 23 (CNA) The unusually warm weather of recent days will give way to a cold front on Friday that will send temperatures plummeting by as much as nine degrees Celsius in northern Taiwan, the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) said Wednesday.

Temperatures could hit as high as 28 degrees across Taiwan on Wednesday, but the approaching front will begin affecting all parts of the country on Thursday evening, with chances of sporadic rain in northern Taiwan, the bureau forecast. Starting Friday, temperatures across Taiwan are expected to plunge because of strengthening northeasterly winds and the arriving cold front, according to the bureau.

The bureau forecast that daytime highs will fall by as much as nine degrees to below 20 degrees in northern Taiwan on Christmas Day and by 4 to 6 degrees in central and eastern Taiwan and by 2 to 4 degrees in southern parts of the country.

From Saturday to early next week, the mercury could reach lows of 14 degrees in northern and central parts of Taiwan and 15-17 degrees in the south, the bureau said. (By S. F. Wang and Flor Wang)
