4.1-magnitude earthquake rattles eastern Taiwan

Taipei, Dec. 14 (CNA) An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.1 shook eastern Taiwan at 3:19 p.m. Monday, according to the Central Weather Bureau.

The epicenter of the earthquake was about 18.5 kilometers west of Hualien County Hall at a depth of 23.5 km, the bureau's Seismology Center said.

The earthquake's intensity, which gauges the actual effect of a temblor, was highest in Tungmen, Hualien County, where it measured 4 on Taiwan's 7-tiered intensity scale.

The earthquake also measured an intensity of 2 in Hualien City and on Hehuan Mountain. (By Y.F. Low)
