Sunday will be milder; colder weather for late next week

There will be a respite Sunday from the recent wet and chilly weather in northern Taiwan even lower temperatures and some rain are in store for the latter part of next week, the Central Weather Bureau said Saturday.

Weather for the start of the weekend will continue to be wet and chilly, with rain for the northern and northeastern parts of the country, the bureau said. Temperatures for those areas will range from 15 to 21 degrees Celsius whereas the highs in central and southern Taiwan could go up to 28 degrees under cloudy but dry conditions.

Weather in the northern half of the island will take a turn for the better Sunday as northeastern seasonal winds die down a bit, with some sunshine forecast for parts of the country, the bureau said.

The seasonal winds are expected to pick up again next Tuesday, followed the next day by a clear drop in temperatures when a cold air mass moves in from the the north.

Until the sway of the cold air mass subsides on Dec. 18, temperatures in the north could fall to 12 degrees and those in the south to 15 degrees, the bureau said.

Some brief showers are also in the forecast for the northern and eastern parts of the country, it said. (By Wang Shu-fen and Jay Chen)
