Mercedes-Benz opens AMG performance center in Taiwan

German auto manufacturer Mercedes-Benz has opened its first performance center in Taiwan for its Mercedes-AMG fleet, catering to a growing number of customers in the country.

Encouraged by robust sales of its Mercedes-AMG and other models in Taiwan, the company said, it aims to set up three other AMG Performance Centers in the country in the first half of next year.

The first AMG Performance Center is located in Guandu in Taipei, and the company is planning to open the other three in Taichung and Kaohsiung. Mercedes-Benz said its sales in Taiwan have increased 176 percent over the past four years and it has gained a 5 percent domestic market share.

In the first 11 months of the year, Mercedes-Benz sold 19,000 units in Taiwan and the number is expected to top 20,000 for the whole year amid growing enthusiasm among Taiwanese consumers for the luxury brand, market analysts said.

In November, Mercedes-Benz sold more than 1,700 cars in Taiwan, ranking as sixth largest auto vendor in the country, after Toyota, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Honda and Mazda.

At the four AMG Performance Centers, Taiwanese customers will be able to view the latest Mercedes-AMG models and test drive them, access after-sales services, and participate in special promotional events, the company said.

It also said its latest AGM GT3 model, a racing car that was unveiled earlier this year at the Geneva Motor Show, will be on display at the 2016 Taipei Auto Show. (By Tien Yu-pin and Frances Huang)
