HOMS, Syria (AP) -- Syrian officials say the first stage of rebel evacuation from their last stronghold in Syria's central city of Homs has begun.
The governor of Homs tells The Associated Press on the outskirts of Waer that 320 gunmen will leave the district on Wednesday.
The evacuation is part of a truce reached between the government and the opposition in Waer, which government forces had blockaded for nearly three years, only sporadically allowing in food.
Around 300 civilians are also being evacuated from Waer as part of the deal.
Once the evacuation is completed the city of Homs will fully return to government control.
