BASEL, Switzerland (AP) -- Swiss champion Basel has signed Slovenia under-21 forward Andraz Sporar and given him the No. 9 shirt.
Basel says Sporar signed a contract through June 2020 and starts training with the club in January.
Financial details were not disclosed though Slovenian media reported Olimpija Ljubljana received a transfer fee of around 3 million Swiss francs ($3.02 million).
Sporar says in an interview broadcast on Basel's website that "it's the right step for me. Now the job really starts."
Basel leads the Swiss league and has advanced to the Europa League knockout rounds.
The 21-year-old forward had a goal-per-game scoring record for league-leading Olimpija this season.
Sporar has yet to play for Slovenia's national team, which is in a 2018 World Cup qualifying group with England, Scotland and Slovakia.
