Federal funds frozen, child-support data contractors fired

DALLAS (AP) -- Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton's office says the federal government has frozen funds and the state has dismissed 11 technology contractors amid delays in upgrading the state's child support data system

The shakeup comes as state House members are set to begin an investigation into how the costs for a project known as T2 climbed to $310 million. Initial estimates said the project would cost just over $202 million.

The project was supposed to streamline the data system used to process child-support payments and support investigations.

Paxton's office informed the state's Legislative Budget Board of the federal move on Friday. The contractors and at least one director had been dismissed in recent weeks, the Dallas Morning News reported (http://bit.ly/1HLS7Ym ).

The dismissals came after reports of failures by state officials and vendor, Accenture, to deliver promised work on time.

The project was launched by Paxton's predecessor, Gov. Greg Abbott.
