Changhua launches first civil recreation center in central Taiwan

Taipei, Dec. 4 (CNA) Changhua County began a trial run on Friday of its newly built civil recreation center, the first such facility in central Taiwan created as part of the government's efforts to encourage exercise. The five-story sports center, designed for areas with a population of 150,000 according to the Sports Administration's plan, can cater to the many different recreational interests and needs of the public, said County Magistrate Wei Ming-ku (???). The free trial period will run through Dec. 10, giving local residents the chance to try out the sports center's many facilities, from the heated swimming pool and aerobics classroom to the multi- functional floor that can be set up as a badminton court or basketball court, Wei said. Set to formally open on Dec. 12, the center will offer free use of the facilities from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. every morning to senior citizens, low-income families and people with disabilities, he said.
