Bollywood stars fall in love with Taiwan food, fruits

Bollywood stars shooting a promotional calendar in Taiwan at the invitation of the Tourism Bureau were impressed by the country's cleanness and hospitality and love the food and fresh fruits, one of the organizers said Thursday.

In an effort to promote Taiwan as a tourist destination and a location for Bollywood films, the Tourism Bureau invited 15 Bollywood stars to a photoshoot for a calendar that will be distributed in India.

The movie stars started to arrive on Nov. 26 and so far have completed shooting at the Taipei 101 skyscraper, Nanya Wonder Rock on the northeast coast, the bustling Ximenting area in Taipei, Gingtiangang on Yanmingshan, Ten Drum Creative Park in Kaohsiung, and Tai Yi Ecological Leisure Farm and Sun Moon Lake in Nantou.

Hsieh Chang-ming, director of Tourism Bureau's Singapore Office who organized the photoshoot, said the Bollywood stars and directors think Taiwan is clean and hospitable.

What is most charming about Taiwan is its people, who are kind, hospitable and considerate, Bollywood director Aurora Sunny said, according to Hsieh.

The Indian celebrities also loved the fresh fruits and food, and the non-vegetarians ones were particularly taken with the braised pork rice, a signature Taiwanese dish, Hsieh said.

They also liked the curry fried rice in Taiwan, which is different from the stewed curry dishes in India, he said.

He said that at impromptu stop at a 7-Eleven convenience store, the celebrities sampled fried chicken, curry chicken and rice, and chocolate bars and declared them delicious.

Hseih also related an incident in which an Indian photographer forgot his backpack on a high speed train in Kaohsiung and was able to recover it intact in 10 minutes.

The Indian stars who will be featured on the calendar include TV actress Sukirti Kandpal, TV actress and model Sara Khan, and dancer and actress Vrushkka Mehta Hemantkumar.
