Tsai: DPP will not reduce the quota for Mainland Chinese students

Tsai Ing-wen spoke of her education policy on Friday

Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) presidential candidate Tsai Ing-wen spoke of her education policy on Friday, that if the DPP wins, the quota for Mainland Chinese students to study in Taiwan will not be reduced.

Tsai alongside Lin Wan-I, the executive director of the DPP’s think tank, Chen Tung-sheng, the leader of the Think tank’s education policy group, and Chang Ching-sen, the DPP’s campaign manager, held a press conference Friday to talk about the party’s education policy.

In her speech, Tsai spoke of DPP’s four major education policy goals, including “happy learning for students”, “fewer burdens on parents”, to “keep pace with the time”, and to “foster mature citizens”.

When asked whether the quota for Mainland Chinese students will be reduced if the DPP wins the presidential election, Tsai said no.

“Mainland Chinese students come to Taiwan, receiving training and education alongside Taiwanese students, is a policy worth keeping,” said Tsai.
