BEAVER CREEK, Colo. (AP) -- Kjetil Jansrud of Norway turned in the fastest time during a downhill training session Wednesday as he tries to defend his Birds of Prey title.
Jansrud cruised through the difficult course in 1 minute, 44.04 seconds. Carlo Janka of Switzerland was second, 0.25 seconds behind, and Josef Ferstl of Germany, third.
Steven Nyman had the top time for the U.S., 0.79 seconds behind Jansrud.
The downhill race is Friday.
One of the big favorites will be Norway's Aksel Lund Svindal after he won a downhill and super-G race in Lake Louise, Alberta, last weekend.
Bode Miller tested out the course as a forerunner before the training run. Miller's taking a break from World Cup racing this season. The six-time Olympic medalist will serve as a commentator for the races.
