Taiwan records warmest-ever November

Taiwan records warmest-ever November

The average temperature in Taiwan in November this year exceeded 24 degrees Celsius, a record high for that month in the country, the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) said Wednesday.

For the first time in recorded history, the temperature in November averaged 24.12 degrees in Taiwan, breaking the record of 23.6 degrees in November 2006, the CWB said.

The unseasonably warm weather was due to the late arrival of cold air masses and to low of rainfall, the CWB said.

The November temperature in Taiwan usually averages 20-22 degrees, CWB data showed.

Taiwan is highly likely to also see unseasonably warm weather in December, and 2015 may well be recorded as the warmest year ever in the country if there are no significant cold air masses by the end of the year, according to the bureau.

The average temperature in Taiwan in the first 11 months of the year was 24.67 degrees, just 0.05 degrees shy of the record high in 1998, the bureau said. (By Chen Wei-ting and Lee Hsin-Yin)
